Welcome

Welcome to the Texas Hill Country and the jewel of the Highland Lakes, Lake LBJ. While much of Texas is flat, the Texas Hill Country is defined by rolling hills, lakes, creeks, rivers, rocks and beautiful live oak and pecan trees.

The Highland Lakes were formed in the 1930’s by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA – www.lcra.org) by damming up the Colorado River and its many tributaries in seven places. The southernmost lake is Lake Lady Bird in downtown Austin and Lake Austin, Lake Travis, Lake Marble Falls, Lake LBJ, Inks Lake and Lake Buchanan are upstream and northwest of Austin.

Lake LBJ, which is 23 miles long, is special in that it is a “pass-through” lake, which means that it stays at a pretty constant level whether or not there are drought or flood conditions.  As a result, Lake LBJ has many beautiful waterfront homes and parks and Horseshoe Bay Resort is located on its southern shore.

Horseshoe Bay Resort was built in the 1970’s and the City of Horseshoe Bay (www.horseshoe-bay-tx.gov) that surrounds the Resort and other upscale communities was incorporated in 2005. Today, the area boasts nine challenging golf courses, a jet port, 4 pools and lakefront beaches, several marinas, the Resort Yacht Club and golf clubhouses, fitness facilities and a hotel.  All are near the historic town of Marble Falls and an hour from downtown Austin and its airport.

The people who live in Horseshoe Bay, Marble Falls and the other towns along the lakes are typical of most Texans – friendly, hospitable, and proud! They come from all over the country to take advantage of the scenery, water sports, golf, horseback riding, music, shopping, wineries (there are about 51 of them in the Texas Hill Country), mild winters and moderate cost of living. A new Baylor Scott& White Medical Center (www.sw.org) was opened in 2015 in Marble Falls to serve the area’s residents.

I came to the Texas Hill Country many years ago because of my family’s roots. I would love to help you discover just how wonderful it is to live or vacation here!
